More on the Neurological Test
Suburban Orthopaedics utilizes state-of-the-art neurological equipment for our diagnostic testing. The test will be performed by a certified technician or a board certified physician.
Can you walk me through what the test will be like?
Your technician will place sticky pads to record the information superficially. These pads record the electrical activity of your nerves. The stimulator is a probe that rests on top of your skin and sends mild electrical impulses up the involved nerve pathway. This static electricity impulse excites the nerve; and an impulse then travels down the nerve to its muscle which it contracts, causing the hand or foot to twitch uncontrollably. There is no risk or damage done to the nerves or body by this investigation. In fact, the human body actually produces its own natural electrical currents to deliver messages from the brain to the peripheral body. These currents can be affected by injury, inflammation, disease, and or other conditions. During the test, each electrical impulse applied to a nerve by the machine lasts approximately 200 milliseconds.
What can I expect after the test?
A computer is used to display, record, analyze, and store the data, gathered from the test. There are absolutely no side effects from this procedure.
Your results are read by either your Physician or a Qualified Medical Practitioner. This procedure is covered by most health, workers compensation, or auto insurance companies.
